Breast Cancer Treatment Options
The Role of the Pharma Industry
However, even though I am a strong supporter and believer of complimentary breast cancer treatments, I would like to make a case for the conventional-traditional medicine and the Pharmaceutical Industry first. I do strongly believe that the vast majority of doctors, researchers, nurses, pharmaceutical companies, etc. do have a genuine interest to provide a patient with the best care possible. I truly believe that. Since almost 10 years now, I am employed by one of the top Pharmaceutical Companies, which is one of the leaders in the field of cancers and breast cancer treatment in particular. Because of that, I had the pleasure to work closely with many others in our field who go to work every day, dedicated and committed to find a drug or medical procedure for patients in need. And I will vehemently defend my colleagues whose integrity, ethics and moral are unquestionable.
Further to that, let’s don’t forget the big picture: I recently had a Cystoscopy done after I encountered blood in my urine. The urologist had to put a stent where my kidney connects with the urinary tract and let me tell you something: as the anesthesia started to wear off, I suffered from excruciating pain and I was more than thankful for the painkillers they subscribed me. Whenever I had to pee I was unable to breath and the pain wouldn’t subside for a solid 15 minutes after that. And all this was WITH painkillers. I’m not sure how I would have gone through the first few days without that stuff.
Or what about the great advancements in emergency surgery – isn’t it amazing what today’s doctors can do for you when you get rushed into the hospital after you were in a car accident? Because of the Pharmaceutical Industry people suffer less. I know that many would disagree with me on that, but I do firmly stand behind my words. I also think that a lot of people are hypocrites – and admittedly, I am one of them. I remember very well making lots of comments whenever people were telling me about their aches and pains and the amounts of drugs they were prescribed with. It was easy for me to arrogantly look at them and telling them proudly, that I would need none of all that. Of course not, because I was healthy. I was by nature blessed with a healthy body, an over average fitness level and excellent constitution. But I ruined it and it’s only me to blame. 20 years of alcohol abuse demand their toll. It started with an Advil every now and then. But then I got severe joint pain and I was diagnosed with gout. I needed medical treatment and yes, I needed drugs to help me with my condition. Gone the days where I belligerently attacked others of taking medicine. And I think I can speak for a lot of people. We are always very quick to join others once we a convenient victim is found. And the Pharma Industry became such a victim because of the ridiculous profits we allowed it to make – yes, we did ALLOW them to take our money. Sure, they asked for it, but it was us to readily open our pockets.
Well, maybe the way I just described the situation was overly simplistic, but it does take two. And we are partially responsible for the mess we created and the problem we now - more than ever - face, given the state of our health care system.
