3. Going through changes
One of the first things Ann did after we received her breast cancer diagnosis, she immediately changed her diet. I think it's fair to say that we always thought of our diet as 'okay'. But in retrospect I guess we do have to admit that we were wrong. By avoiding fast food and meat for the most part (Ann did not eat any meat for the past 20+ years) we thought that we were doing alright. However, I guess 'Fettuccini Alfredo' or "Eggplant Parmigianino" are not necessarily any better than a fatty steak or burgers with fries, if you look at it realistically.
Ann switched to a raw food diet, not a 100% but if I had to guess, I'd say 85%. She avoids any processed food, except for a few things like brown rice pasta, some grains and an occasional piece of fish. No sugar, no alcohol, no canned food, etc.. In addition to that, a lot of juicing (vegetables) and green-smoothies (70/30 ratio of veggies and fruit). And wheatgrass juice - every day (yummy ;-)) I will talk in detail about our nutrition and dietary aspects in the "Health-Nutrition" section of this website. I thought that his was a great idea. Nobody can argue that a healthy lifestyle is beneficial for anyone for a myriad of reasons. And secondly, at least it gives you the impression that you actively do something in fighting the cancer. But at that point, I didn't know yet, that there was actually much more to the whole story. Nevertheless, I did gradually join in with Ann's new way of eating, not to the same extend but I'm getting there. Click here to get to the next chapter: '4. Cut-Burn-Poison'
