Alternative Breast Cancer Treatments

As mentioned earlier, my wife Ann investigated into Alternative Breast Cancer Treatments right after we learned about her Breast Cancer Diagnosis. She told me right away that she wouldn’t feel comfortable with chemotherapy, bearing in mind the side effects. Soon after we learned more specifics about her cancer, e. g. location and ER/PR, HER-2 status, it turned out that her initial feeling about chemo and radiation was substantiated. The tumor was sitting practically next to her heart, which petty much scratched radiation off the list, and the available chemotherapy protocols showed no significant benefit in the treatment of her breast cancer.

This encouraged both of us to even look more deeply into available Alternative Breast Cancer Treatment options. The field of Alternative Breast Cancer Treatment Options is vastly huge and therefore quite confusing. In this section of my website I will focus mainly on the area of biologically based treatments – such as nutrition, vitamins and supplements - and lifestyle, because we decided that this would benefit us the most. There are other forms of alternative treatments out there, too, however, I don’t like to talk about things I don’t know too much about, and therefore I will focus on the aforementioned areas. Please note: it’s important to understand that I’m not a doctor or an expert in the field of Alternative Breast Cancer Treatments. It’s imperative that you work with your Health Care Professionals in order to determine your breast cancer treatment protocol. Keep in mind, every cancer is different and you need to find out what your situation is and what YOU believe is the right thing to do. The area of Alternative Breast Cancer Treatments is being discussed controversially. Yet, more and more cancer patients are interested in these kinds of treatments. And I personally believe that the traditional medicine becomes more and more open to alternative – or complementary – approaches as more data is being made available. Especially in the area of breast cancer, the link to nutrition and lifestyle seems to be commonly accepted among researchers and doctors. To give you an example: my company, a world leader in the pharmaceutical industry, just recently issued a presentation on breast cancer prevention. The three most important key points were listed in the order of importance:

Nutrition – Eat right and watch you weight!

Exercise – Work out on a regular basis!

Monitoring - Go to your annual mammograms!

Apparently, chewing on a couple of carrots every now and then will not help to effectively treat cancer. And this is the problem with the whole notion of Alternative Breast Cancer Treatments; it is not being taken serious enough, yet. How can something as trivial as eating and living healthy can be as effective as chemotherapy? Well, I think you can look at cancer in two ways: either you believe that cancer is something that just happens to some people for reasons unbeknownst to us. Or you may think that cancer is something more like a sickness, for instance Diabetes or Hypertension. Of course, there are highly effective drugs available to treat either disease, but I would assume that everybody would agree that nutrition and lifestyle can be directly linked to them. And based on what we eat and how we treat our bodies, we are either more or less prone to fall victim to a cancer. I personally believe that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Yet, there is still a lot we simply don’t know about cancer and hopefully soon we will have even more effective conventional treatments available. However, since cancer is something that happens inside of us, I do strongly believe that by the way we eat and live our lives we can play imperative role in the prevention and treatment of cancer.

Well, there is one thing I learned during my research on my wife’s breast cancer and My Kidney-Cancer: nothing is absolute with cancer. Look at smoking, for instance. I bet if you’d poll 10 random people, at least 9 would readily agree to that inhaling tobacco causes lung-cancer. However, that’s entirely not true – otherwise everybody who smokes should get cancer, right? And that's not the case, as we all know. However, it’s undisputable that smokers expose themselves to a significantly higher risk of getting lung cancer and therefore - of course – nobody should smoke. And the exact same argument applies to all Chemotherapies, Radiation Therapies and Alternative Breast Cancer Treatments: none of them has been proven to get rid of cancer. Because otherwise we would have the cure we have been waiting for so long on. But as for conventional therapies, there are quite a few alternative/complimentary options out there, which have been proven to be very effective in treating breast cancer.
